Printing Room 107!
Hey, you want to know what each of those columns or radical "in" jokes are about in the Daily Blade are about? Well, you could always read the Blade and take a shot in the dark at them, or you could just let me tell you, except the "in" jokes until further notice. Here, for the not-so-first time is an attempt at discribing them.
Newsletter Articles, old, new and no longer existing.
- Answer Box- The number one column for bad ideas. Created to answer fan letters, the ammount of letters I recieved for it wasn't more than two so I just canned it after a while. I think I may have edited this column out of the archives since it didn't add ANYTHING to the newsletter.
- A Time To Laugh- It was a good column when it first appeared, but it went downhill when I ran short on material. I couldn't keep posting things that weren't funny, then flat out say they weren't funny.
- Channel Surfing- This was a section devoted to the "Quote of the night." It was just something that someone in the Blade chatroom said that me and others found to be extremely humorous. Once I left collge and the sanctity of full-time computer access, I couldn't be in the chatroom at the right times, thus, I couldn't post anything in here anymore.
- Check It Out- Against popular belief, this isn't an every issue thing. It's an announcement/review of things that I or a staff member has stumbled upon that's really cool or interesting. Early Check It Outs were a lot of jokes or one sided things to do, such as jumping off a cliff or visitng TCGlobal chat. I've since tried to make them more reader enjoyable.
- GameTron- An attempt at a solidified game review column, it didn't have the effect I was hoping for. The Blade actually became more jumbled since it seemed to feature non-stop game reviews from me and the assistant editor. I later decided to do it only when the assistant editor didn't send out his articles, but I didn't really stick to that.
- Lyric's Posting- I would take a song with meaningful lyrics and post them here. A short time later, a staff member advised me against this since there was a huge stink over illegal printing of song lyrics. I later stopped posting it, even though I should have been safe. This is one of the columns that was edited out in the archives.
- The Metronome- It is a music column. I felt it was needed since I didn't have a place to review music videos, songs, or artists. It wasn't always called The Metronome, though. I think this column has had the most name changes of any column.
- VideoTron- Okay, so I'm not good with column names. This is GameTron, but in Movie format. It doesn't jumble the newsletter like GameTron. Actually, it seems to be a lot more helpful since the average person has either a VCR or DVD player. It fits a lot more people. I think just about everyone can enjoy this column.
- 8-Ball Mayhem- If I'm not mistaken, it's the only Blade article to get it's own special edition(The Bladewitch Project, 1999). It replaced Answer Box as a fortune teller of sorts, but eventually just answered questions I made up, much like Answer Box. I've kept it around, unlike Answer Box, because I use it as a rumor source for the Blade. Oh, and for some reason, this has had a lot of fan response.
- 52-TWENTY- Voted as the best column the Blade has ever had, 52-TWENTY is a collection of all things senseless. Things that are really funny, stupid, exciting, poetic, or unfitting anywhere else go here. As for what the name means, search me. I don't even remember how I came up with it. All I know is, if I don't put it in every issue, people start to freak.
